Methodology
How the Index is calculated
Each award contributes points based on the competition's prestige, the medal tier and the edition's age. The criteria are public and the index recalculates itself.
Competition prestige
Not all contests weigh the same in the final score: international reach and technical rigour make the difference between the five competitions that feed the index.
Medal tier
From finalist to world champion, each medal is converted into a comparable score on a single scale, the same for every competition.
Freshness of the edition
An award from the latest edition weighs more than one from years back: the index portrays the cheese's present, not its past.
Three additional confidence criteria also act on this base: they reward validation across several different competitions and consistency over time, and limit how much a single result can weigh.
